Successful Project Management - An Introduction to Project Management for Beginners.

This 1 day course has been designed to provide non-project managers with a practical understanding of project management, giving them the confidence and skills to deliver projects, work within project teams and apply a more structured approach to their day-to-day work.

Who Should Attend?

  • Managers, team leaders and employees with little or no project management experience, who intend to be part of or manage a project
  • People who have previously worked on projects, looking for a general refresher course before they return to project management

Why Attend?

Project management is fast moving into the business mainstream and is being recognised by many organisations as a controlled and structured approach for achieving organisational change.

As a result of this, many non-project managers are being asked to manage projects without any formal training and limited experience.

This tends to lead to an inconsistent approach to project management across the organisation and undermines the potential for success.

Definitions of project terms, leadership of projects and the management of project progress can be interpreted differently in different departments, which can lead to misunderstandings and stress when critical deadlines are not met.

This course equips non-project managers with the essential knowledge and skills to oversee and implement projects in a confident and effective manner.

Key Benefits

  • Participants will learn the essential language, knowledge and skills of project management within 1 day, ready to begin implementing the next day
  • Course content delivered by experienced project managers, with tangible & relevant examples and high levels of interaction to ensure maximum value to participants
  • Prince2-based (without the complexity) course ensures a consistent approach to project management becomes embedded within your organisation

What Will Be Learnt?

  • Definition of a project and project management
  • The project lifecycle " Understanding the business case and setting SMART objectives
  • Defining and managing stakeholders
  • Gathering and understanding requirements
  • Understanding the difference between risks, issues and constraints - how to recognise and manage them
  • Developing solutions
  • Defining the work breakdown structure and project planning
  • Project budgeting " Managing the critical path
  • Implementing the solution and managing delivery
  • Project communication - tools and approaches
  • Causes of project failure and how to avoid them
  • Post-implementation reviews
  • In-service reviews

The course will be delivered by experienced project managers using tangible and relevant examples to ensure participants do not get lost in project management jargon and theory. It is designed to ensure that any specific questions or issues that participants may have are addressed.
